Today's Daily Scare was more severe than most (ie vaseline in hair, covering body w/pen, climbing up cabinets and jumping off). This morning we awoke to find Liv's lips and nose ridiculously swollen, her whole face rashy, and hundreds of tiny blister all over her chin and lower cheeks. There was one big blister at the corner of her mouth that had burst and was oozing. There was a two inch line of little blisters across her forehead. The two first fingers on her left hand that she sucks on were swollen and blistery, too. She had a hard time talking and said, "My tongue feelth fluffy."
So I rushed her down to the Urgent Care Center - lest her throat should swell and blister - to have her checked out. They decided it was a very severe reaction to poison oak, gave her an oral dose of a strong anti-histamine and wrote me a prescription for some pediatric steroids in case it got worse as the day progressed.
Mom-in-law told me to put a concoction of melrose, lavendar, and helichrysum essential oils on, and as of right now she seems to be doing much better. Her lips and nose have gone down and she hasn't complained too much. The blisters look like they've stopped swelling at least. And right now she's covering my face and arms in stickers, so I guess she's feeling better! Poor girl - she's breakin' her mommy's heart!

Thanks for all the calls of concern. She's doing much better. All the blisters have scabbed over, so now she looks like she has a beard! Her puffiness made her lips crack, so she's been on a pretty stable liquid diet because it hurts when she opens her mouth too much. I'm sure she'll be back to her singing, dancing, silly self in no time!
Where did she touch the poison oak? Was the reaction only on her face? How did that happen?
